Latest news

Dear Clarkes Families,

I’m honored to be joining the CES community this year as Principal, and am eager to meet and get to know you all.  This is work I love!

As was the case with Mrs. French, I have other assigned duties that take me out of the building a couple days a week – a fact of life for most small, rural schools.   In my case, I also serve as Principal at Rural Dell Elementary, and am there Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Friday mornings.

My commitment to the Clarkes community is absolute, and while not always physically in the building, I stand ready to serve you whenever needed.  Please call Doris at (503) 632-3290 to reach me, or connect with me directly via email at:  I return calls and emails fairly quickly.  When circumstances warrant, I am prepared to leave one school and travel immediately to the other to support staff and students.

Additionally, we are ordering digital devices to make direct communication instantaneous and personal.  I anticipate being able to FaceTime, Google Hangout, etc. with families in the very near future, and will distribute that number once we have it.  My goal is to ‘be there’ when you need me, whether I’m ‘there’ or not.

I have ambitious goals for our community, and look forward to hearing your thoughts, ideas, needs, concerns, etc. as we chart a course for the future of Clarkes.  Ours is a community rich with history, and a commitment to our kids’ future.  I’m proud to join in that tradition, and to work alongside you as we collaborate to overcome barriers and build the future our children deserve.

Yours in Service,

Larry Conley, Principal

Student Testing
Smarter Balanced Assessments
Posted on 01/24/2018
Later this spring, we’ll complete our Smarter Balanced Assessments for students in Grades 3-5. Unlike multiple-choice assessments, these State tests better align with the typical work we do in classrooms (i.e., think critically, analyze information, make a claim, cite and use multiple sources, prove answers, write, complete multi-step problems, communicate, etc.).   READ MORE... about Smarter Balanced Assessments
